San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office holding checkpoint Friday night in Millbrae

MILLBRAE, Calif. – The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint beginning on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m. through Saturday, April 13 at 2 a.m. in the 100 block of El Camino Real in the City of Millbrae. The primary purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind community members that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint locations are determined based on data from impaired driving-related crashes.

This checkpoint is part of our ongoing program funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
